Rope Swing Death

Kyle Lee Stocking, 22, died last Sunday while trying to swing on a rope. Not just any rope swing though, this was at Corona Arch, a big, towering arch in southeastern Utah. Recently this landmark has grown more popular through social media. Many hikers and adventurers have posted videos on YouTube of them and their friends swinging on ropes through this arch. This has been given the name "World's Largest Rope Swing." Who would have thought something that looks so fun could be so dangerous?

Extinct Frog Makes a Come-Back

30-years ago a type of frog went extinct. This certain type gave birth through it's mouth. Recently in Australia, researchers found a way to bring back this species! This frog is called a Platypus frog and they swallow their eggs and let the babies grow in their stomach until they give birth, through their mouth. Scientists and researchers at the University of Newcastle in Australia worked long and hard on the "Lazarus Project." This project included getting cell nuclei from tissues that had been sitting in a freezer for many years. They took the frozen nuclei and put in into a great barred frog's system. It only worked for a few days at a time but they got enough of the information that they were trying to find.

Death in a Nursing Home

In Bakersfield, California at Glenwood Gardens nursing home a woman collapsed and was having problems breathing. The 87-year old woman, Lorraine Bayless, went down in the dining room and a nurse called 911. The dispatcher told the nurse that she had to give Bayless CPR but the nurse refused to do it because it was against their policy. The dispatcher was telling the nurse that the woman would die if she did not give her CPR and the nurse still would not do it. The nurse would not even let someone else at the nursing home give Bayless CPR. Who cares about a stupid policy at that point, how could you let that poor old woman die right in front of you, especially if you could have stopped it.

Abandoned Baby

About a week ago in Texas there was a report of an abandoned baby left in a plastic shopping bag. The parents would face charges for child endangerment. In efforts to find the parents of this abandoned, week-old, baby girl, the police station has taken a picture of the infant and given it it to their sketch artist who usually makes the sketches the description that people give the station. The artist was able to make a sketch of what they thought the newborns parents might look like. This is the first time that this police station has tried to find the parents of abandoned children this way.

Scorpions On A Plane

Your biggest nightmare has finally come true. On Tuesday February 19, 2013 there was a report about a plane that had to land immediately because there was a scorpion on the plane. How creepy would that be to find one of those sneaky little things on a plane with you. A small, enclosed area that you literally cannot get out of. Although, I'm sure that would be an interesting story to tell your friends later on, it must have been very scary at the time.

A Little Extreme for Schools?

Do you believe in corporal punishment for children? Would you let one of your kids teacher physically punish them if they were misbehaving? What if your child had a disorder and struggled to control it? There are stories all over the world of children dying from different sorts of punishments that their schools are giving them. Many special needs children are punished for behavioral problems and disruptions but it is hard for them to control some things. Some teachers have put students in to bags that are made specifically to restrain children and contain them. Children have suffocated inside of these bags. Other children have been put inside a very small padded room or cabinet as a punishment. Lives are being taken, this is one step too far for punishments.

Swim Coaches Sexual Misconduct

A trusted swim coach in Indiana had cameras hidden in the girls locker room and video taped the girls showering and changing. The parents of one of the swimmers was called to their local police station to help with the investigation going on. They were asked to identify their daughter in the videos.  Parents said it was heartbreaking to hear that their daughters trusted swim coach was watching their daughter and her friends in the nude. The coach was sentenced to thirty three years in prison for the offence. Thirty six swim coaches have been accused of sexual misconduct of any sort in the last ten years and they have been banned from the USA Swimming Organization.
